  Democrat delegates to be chosen Sunday
This weekend 48 Wisconsinites will be selected to attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver. After record Democratic primary turnout and packed county caucuses last month, the party will hold its congressional district caucuses Sunday. Delegates selected Sunday will attend the National Convention in congressional district level delegates. The caucus for the Seventh District, which includes Barron, Rusk, Chippewa, Polk, Burnett, Washburn and Sawyer counties will take place at 29 Pines in Chippewa Falls. Registration begins at noon and closes at 2 p.m.
  Felon found competent to stand trial
Douglas W. Moses, 46, of Chetek was found competent Wednesday to stand trial in Barron County Circuit Court on felony charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and failing to comply with an officer. Moses pled insanity in April after he was taken into custody on March 8 following a lengthy standoff with law enforcement officers at a Cameron motel.
  Early morning blaze destroys house
Fire destroyed an unoccupied house at 991 Fourth Avenue in the Town of Prairie Farm owned by Bob Hutchison early Thursday morning. The cause of the fire is undetermined. The Prairie Farm Fire Department responded to the scene shortly after 3 a.m. The Ridgeland Fire Department assisted with water.

  Third annual Bike for Life
The third annual Bike for Life, a fund-raiser for the Pregnancy Help Center of Rice Lake, takes place Saturday, May 10 at UW-Barron County in Rice Lake. Lunch, horse-drawn wagon rides, a silent auction, face painting and other activities are planned throughout the day. For bicyclists, registration starts at 9:30 a.m.and biking routes open at 10 a.m. For motorcyclists, registration starts at 1 p.m. with a 1:30 p.m. tour start.   Chamber seeks Teacher of Year nominations
The Business and Education Committee of the Rice Lake Chamber of Commerce is seeking Teacher of the Year nominations. Forms are available at the schools or the Chamber office and should be returned on or before Friday, May 30.
  Child Development Days
The Rice Lake School District, in conjunction with other agencies, aims to identify needs early on through screenings during Child Development Days scheduled Thursday, May 8 from 1-6 p.m., Friday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Red Cedar School, 33 Ann St., Rice Lake.   Mother's Day program
Kindergartners from St. Joseph School in Rice Lake present a Mother's Day program, open to all mothers and grandmothers, on Friday, May 9 at 12:45 p.m. at the Rice Lake Senior Center, 12 W. Humbird St.
  British Brass Band to perform
The Northwinds British Brass Band performs its spring concert on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the theater of the Fine Arts Building at UW-Barron County in Rice Lake. Guest conductor is Ross Wilson. Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children.
  Harmonettes present spring concert and dessert buffet
The Quad County Harmonettes present a free spring concert and dessert buffet on Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Birchwood. The group is directed by Grace Palm. All are welcome to attend.

Elizabeth Mae Meilahn, 92, of McFarland died May 4. Memorial and Eastern Star services are Saturday at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Waunakee, 5763 Hwy. Q.
  Robert G. LeVan
Robert G. LeVan, 85, of Rice Lake died Tuesday, May 6 at Heritage Manor. Memorial services are Monday, May 12 at 1 p.m. at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery at Spooner, with the Rev. Jeff Elmquist officiating and military rites accorded by the Wisconsin State Honor Guard.
  William Eugene Patraw
William Eugene Patraw, 95, of Rice Lake died Tuesday, May 6 at his home. Funeral services are Friday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, with the Rev. James Powers officiating and burial at the church cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, May 8 from 4-7 p.m. at Jarocki Funeral Home in Rice Lake. A Moose service begins at 6:45 p.m. and is followed by an evening prayer service and Rosary. Visitation is also on Friday, May 9 at the church for 1 hour before the service.
  Anna Myrtle Moody
Anna Myrtle Moody, 87, of Barron died Saturday, May 3. Funeral services are Friday, May 9 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Barron. Visitation is Friday, May 9 at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the service. Arrangements are with Rausch & Steel Funeral Home of Barron.
  Clarence "Curt" Kallenbach
Clarence “Curt” Kallenbach, 92, of Prairie Farm died Thursday, May 8 at Cumberland Hospital. Funeral services are Monday, May 12 at 2 p.m. at Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Home in Dallas, with interment at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Prairie Farm.
